There is plenty of excitement to go around with this upcoming WNBA season. Whether it’s because of Brittney Griner’s Russian detainment, the inaugural season of WNBA fantasy basketball, or just the amount of teams likely to be legitimate contenders, there will be more eyes on the league this season than ever before.

Las Vegas Aces: +350
The Las Vegas Aces have been a powerhouse since moving to Vegas in 2018 and drafting superstar forward A’ja Wilson. They’ve made it to at least the semifinals in each of the past three seasons but have been unable to get over the hump to win a championship. Unfortunately, the team was unable to retain the services of two starters in center Liz Cambage and forward Angel McCoughtry.
The Aces did add highly regarded NBA assistant coach Becky Hammon as their new head coach, which should bode well for them. At the end of the day, however, they seem to lack the firepower that some of the other teams on this list are bringing to the table this season. Another loss in the semifinals may very well be in this team’s future in 2022.

Connecticut Sun: +350
The Connecticut Sun were an absolute force a year ago, leading the league with a 26-6 regular-season record. They looked like the team to beat until they ran into a red-hot Chicago Sky team in the semifinals in the middle of an extremely improbable run to their first WNBA title.
The Sun will be returning the league MVP from a year ago in forward Jonquel Jones as well as all of the rest of their key contributors from last year’s squad. They’ve also brought back guard Courtney Williams, who had a major role with the team before leaving for a quick two-year stint in Atlanta. All things considered, the Sun should be considered the favorite to win what would be their first-ever WNBA title.
Seattle Storm: +500
The Seattle Storm missed its superstar forward Breanna Stewart for the postseason last year and as a result, had a disappointing second-round exit. Before that, Stewart had led Seattle to two championships in three years while looking like a safe pick as the league’s best player.
Legendary guard Sue Bird is back for one more run at a title this season and the Stewart-Bird duo could be the league’s most effective when healthy. Health will play a major factor in this team’s success this year and that likely played a large role in the +500 line not being higher. Expect a big year from the Storm as this will be a very high risk, high reward type of bet.
Chicago Sky: +500
Candace Parker, Courtney Vandersloot and Kahleah Copper are all returning after leading the Chicago Sky to its first title in franchise history a year ago. They lost a couple of starters in guard Diamond DeShields and center Stefanie Dolson but acquired a former Finals MVP in forward Emma Meesseman to fill the void.
After a disappointing regular season and unlikely title run, the Sky will likely be on other teams’ radar this coming season. I expect a better regular season from Chicago, but another title will be nearly impossible to come by.

Phoenix Mercury: +600
The Phoenix Mercury is stacked this season after adding center Tina Charles (2021 WNBA leading scorer) and guard Diamond DeShields (2021 WNBA champion) to a lineup that already features forward Skylar Diggins-Smith and guard Diana Taurasi. There are questions about if and when star center Brittney Griner will be released from detainment in Russia and cleared to play, but her return would only further add to a star-studded 2022 lineup.
Either way, this is a team worth betting on to win this year’s title, especially at the league’s fifth-best odds.
Minnesota Lynx: +900
Center Sylvia Fowles will be playing in her final WNBA season for the Minnesota Lynx this year despite still being one of the league’s best players. The two-time Finals MVP and WNBA’s all-time leading rebounder is coming off one of her best seasons in her career and will look to finish on a similar high note. The problem for Minnesota is their supporting cast.
The Lynx will be returning guard Kayla McBride and added forward Angel McCoughtry from Vegas but will be without forward Napheesa Collier during her pregnancy leave. Collier’s return may come a little too late for Minnesota to get anything going, and an early playoff exit could very well be in the cards for this team.
With such parity in the league, this should be one of the more exciting seasons in recent WNBA history. With such evenly spread out odds, there is plenty of opportunity to pick out a very good team and still make a solid profit on a futures bet.
