Wealth of Slots Rule NJ’s iGaming Space

Slots dominate New Jersey online play, and players are spoiled for choice. Because game makers are always introducing new games, online players can try a different game every day, and never play the same game for well over a year.

When online gambling went live in New Jersey in November 2013, online poker players rejoiced. Here—along with Nevada and Delaware’s online sites—was finally a legal, regulated place to play online poker. Big things were expected.

But a funny thing happened as the state’s online gaming industry shook out. Yes, online poker was popular and drawing players, but much like Atlantic City’s casinos themselves, the real draw turned out to be the slots.

Lots of slots. Lots of cool, fun, imaginatively themed slots.

Just like live casino players, online players love the virtual thrill of the spinning wheels and—in a modern twist—really cool bonus features based on the slots themes. In short order, slots were the most popular and most played games on the state’s online casino sites.

A quick point: Online casino games like blackjack and video poker are counted as slot play, but traditional slots still rule the roost.

In response, New Jersey’s online sites have busted out every slot games they can get their digital hands on. Players can choose from hundreds of slots at all of New Jersey’s sites.

And we’re not talking about the typical three cherries slots of yesteryear. Modern video slots take on themes from movies, TV, music, pop culture and every animal or fantasy tale slots creators can think up.

Take GoldenNuggetCasino.com, considered to offer the most slots in New Jersey with more than 400 games. Themes range from the popular Siberian Storm (featuring tigers) to Monopoly (the board game) to Ghostbusters (the movies).

Close behind is ResortsCasino.com, which has also crossed the 400 slots games mark. In third is PlaySugarHouse.com with more than 300, but really, all of New Jersey’s casino sites average a couple hundred different slots titles.

And while many titles show up at multiple sites, there’s also a push to offer exclusive games. Sites work hard to partner up with game makers. Those game makers then try to get exclusive rights to slot themes from pop culture, such as the TV show Family Guy or a game themed on the rock group KISS.

That means sites are always introducing new games.

It’s not always easy to pick which slots are the most popular as different titles get hot all the time. It seems every time someone tries to pick a top 10, the list is completely different than the last one.

That’s the beauty of choice, of course. Along with video poker and casino games, online players can play a different game every day, and never play the same game again for well over a year. Or, they can play their favorite—and luckiest—again and again.

Like we said, that’s the beauty of choice.
