NFL Futures Update: Who are Bettors’ Top Super Bowl Picks before Opening Kickoff?

The NFL regular season is two weeks away and Tipico Sportsbook reported on who their bettors fancied to win the Super Bowl, and the results might surprise you.

The bettors have spoken. The Cincinnati Bengals are going to win it all this season!

OK, so it’s not an official prediction, but that’s the current prevailing betting sentiment from Tipico customers. We’ve taken a look at some of the main futures bets our customers are diving into, and the data shows some very interesting trends.

Odds to Win Super Bowl 58

  • Kansas City Chiefs +570
  • Philadelphia Eagles +700
  • Buffalo Bills +850
  • San Francisco 49ers +900
  • Cincinnati Bengals +1000
  • Dallas Cowboys +1300
  • New York Jets +1500
  • Baltimore Ravens +1700
  • Miami Dolphins +2000
  • Detroit Lions +2000
  • Jacksonville Jaguars +2500
  • Los Angeles Chargers +2500
  • New Orleans Saints +3000
  • Seattle Seahawks +3000
  • Cleveland Browns +3000

As of mid-August, the Bengals are the top NFL Super Bowl winner futures bet, with 27.3 percent of the handle. They are followed by:

  • Philadelphia Eagles: 21.8%
  • Cleveland Browns: 12.5%
  • Baltimore Ravens: 6.4%
  • Miami Dolphins: 5.2%

It could be that Tipico customers have faith in quarterback Joe Burrow to recover quickly from his strained calf and lead Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, Joe Mixon, and talent-laden Cincy to the title that has eluded them the past two seasons. In 2022, the Bengals shocked the NFL and reached the Super Bowl before losing to the Los Angeles Rams. Last year, Cincy lost to the eventual champion Kansas City Chiefs on a Harrison Butker field goal with three seconds left in the AFC Championship Game.

It also could be that bettors like the value considering the current odds on Cincy at +1000, which is only the fifth shortest on the sportsbook currently.

Bettors Backing Eagles, Browns

Tipico bettors also apparently expect the Philadelphia Eagles to get back to the Super Bowl and not lose it this time. They return QB Jalen Hurts, talented receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, and the NFL’s best pass rush from last year.

The Cleveland Browns are also a juicy pick at +3000 odds. They will have a full season from Deshaun Watson to go along with RB Nick Chubb and DE Myles Garrett. Considering Tipico’s customer base in Ohio, home team sentiment is also obviously at play.

NFL Championship Finalists

  • Chiefs-Eagles +1400
  • Bills-Eagles +2000
  • Bengals-Eagles +2000
  • Chiefs-49ers +2000
  • Bills-49ers +3000
  • Cowboys-Chiefs +3000
  • Bengals-49ers +3500
  • Ravens-Eagles +4000
  • Bills-Cowboys +4000
  • Dolphins-Eagles +4000
  • Jets-Eagles +4000
  • Bengals-Cowboys +4500
  • Jaguars-Eagles +4500
  • Lions-Chiefs +4500

Oddly (pun intended), despite not being among the top five in champion futures betting, the San Francisco 49ers are the team most likely to face the Bengals in the big game based on what Tipico bettors think thus far.

Bengals vs 49ers is the leading bet in our ‘NFL Championship Finalists’ option, which again might be because it’s getting fairly long odds at +3500. This would be the third time those two franchises have squared off in the title tilt.

Giants-Browns Super Bowl?

Sound crazy to see a New York Giants-Browns Super Bowl? Well, not if some Tipico bettors have their way! Those teams are the top betting picks (by handle share) to win the NFC and AFC championships. Those happen to be the top teams in two of Tipico’s active states – New Jersey and Ohio – so the home team factor would be influencing betting patterns here.

But who knows? Last season, Giants quarterback Daniel Jones and the Giants were one of the NFL’s biggest surprises, jumping out to a 6-1 record and later stunning the Minnesota Vikings on the road in the Wild Card round of the playoffs. With Jones and RB Saquon Barkley back, Big Blue might surprise once again.

If the Brownies win the competitive AFC North, they may be able to set themselves up for a playoff run.
