The American Sports Betting Coalition will bring government, law enforcement and business leaders together in a campaign to repeal the 25-year-old federal ban on sports betting. Created by the American Gaming Association, the coalition cites a study in which 72 percent of avid sports fans favor the repeal of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992.
Golden Looks Golden with Stratosphere Acquisition
Golden Entertainment is buying the Stratosphere (above) and Arizona Charlie’s casinos in an $850 million deal that transforms the slot route and tavern operator into a serious player in the Las Vegas locals market. The company’s holdings now total eight casinos, nearly 16,000 slots, 114 table games and more than 5,100 hotel rooms.
Vermont Legalizes Daily Fantasy Sports
Vermont Governor Phil Scott (l.) has signed a law legalizing daily fantasy sports in the state. The bill exempts DFS games form the state’s gambling laws and institutes consumer protections. DFS sites must pay an annual $5,000 registration fee.

PASPA Repeal Introduced in U.S. House
New Jersey Congressman Frank Pallone (l.) has introduced a bill in the U.S. House of Representatives that would repeal the 1992 federal ban on sports betting. The Gaming Accountability and Modernization Enhancement Act—the GAME Act—would repeal PASPA and allow states to decide whether to legalize and regulate sports betting.
