Fantasy Sports Bills Advance in Four States
A bill to regulate daily fantasy sports games in New Jersey has been approved by a state Assembly committee and will now go before the full Assembly for a vote. The sponsor, Assemblyman Vince Mazzeo (l.), considers it a “consumer protection” measure. Alabama, where three bills are being considered, Ohio, Georgia and Arkansas also saw movement.

Online Betting Introduced In West Virginia; Failing in New York
The West Virginia House Judiciary Committee is considering House Bill 3067, which would allow online betting in the state, regulated by the lottery commission. Among other provisions, the measure would require licensed gaming facilities and racetracks to pay a $50,000 license fee plus a 14 percent tax on gross gaming revenue. In New York, Gary Pretlow’s (l.) iPoker bill has stalled in the Assembly because people “higher than me” oppose it.

Daily fantasy sports operator DraftKings has raised $100 million in investment funding in its first funding round since announcing a planned merger with FanDuel. Los Angeles Dodgers part owner Todd Boehly’s (l.) Eldridge Industries Inc. led investors, Bloomberg News reported.
Online Gambling Progresses In Michigan
Sponsored by Michigan state Senator Mike Kowall (l.), S203, which would allow online gambling, passed out of committee and will go before the full Senate. The bill would allow commercial and tribal casinos to have gambling websites. Michigan’s iGaming market is estimated to eventually reach more than $300 million.
Mississippi Governor Signs DFS Legislation
Daily fantasy sports betting now is legal in Mississippi, the 12th state to allow the games following Governor Phil Bryant’s (l.) signature on House Bill 967. Operators must pay $5,000 for a three-year license and pay an 8 percent tax on revenue. DFS company employees and individuals under age 18 may not participate.
