New Jersey’s first online sports books offer an array of betting options

PlaySugarHouse.com, Borgata.com (through the playMGM app) and DraftKings are the first online sports books to launch in New Jersey—and, more are likely to come. Here’s our rundown of how the sites work and the promotions they offer.

Since sports betting became legal in New Jersey, sports books have opened at six Atlantic City casinos and two state racetracks. In July, the first full month for sports betting, open sports books took in nearly $40 million in bets. And that’s in a slow, pre-NFL season month.

Of course, these sports books were live at tracks like Monmouth Park in Oceanport, New Jersey or in Atlantic City. In other words, you have to go there to place bets.

But fear not, online players. The New Jersey sports betting market is moving fast and at this writing, three online sports betting sites have gone live. As long as you are physically located in the state of New Jersey, you can place online bets at PlaySugarHouse.com, Borgata.com—through its playMGM app—and the DraftKings sports book.

Here’s a look at your online sports betting options.

PlaySugarHouse.com

The sports book is accessible through PlaySugarHouse’s main online site. The site offers many unique features including in-game live betting solutions which updates odds automatically after every single play. Players can place prop bets in the middle of games, up to 12-game parlays in a single bet.

Odds will be shown in three formats: American odds with Vegas-style betting, fraction odds for those that prefer horse race betting and decimal odds to easily calculate the payout. The site also has handy, helpful info on how odds work and are posted.

PlayMGM / Borgata

The PlayMGM app is only available on Android at this writing, but plans are in the works to offer the app on iOS and as a browser-based site.

Early info on the app includes reports that odds for games will be set independently of MGM’s sports books in Nevada and the app has its own unique interface. You can access the app through BorgataCasino.com and BorgataPoker.com.

DraftKings.com

The daily fantasy sports company was the first to go live in the state with an online site thanks to its partnership with Resorts casino in Atlantic City. The site offers a wide range of bets, including props and in-game wagering. It features a sleek design with some features that are brand-new to the sports betting world.

As an opening promotion, DraftKings will match your first bet up to $200. You can access the site directly at DraftKings.com/sportsbook.

With the NFL season fast approaching, you can expect more online sports books to go live in the coming weeks.
