Atlantic City Mayor and Lawmakers Fact Find on Legal Pot in Nevada
Atlantic City’s mayor, Frank Gilliam (l.), and some New Jersey lawmakers are taking a “fact-finding” trip to Nevada to see how legalizing marijuana affected the casino-operating state. Resort Mayor Frank Gilliam (l.)—who said he is paying for the trip himself—said he believes legalized marijuana could jumpstart the city’s economy.
Florida: Gambling’s Last Gasp
Like last year, the Florida House and Senate versions of gambling legislation are far apart. This year, lawmakers face added the pressure from the Voter Control of Gambling Amendment, which will appear on the November ballot and give voters a say over future gambling. Legislators believe this is their last opportunity to leave a gambling footprint on the state. House Tourism & Gaming Control Committee Chairman Mike La Rosa (l.) says the House bill would “box up” gambling in Florida for the next 20 years.
