November 20, 1943: Number one Notre Dame won 14–13 over second-ranked Iowa Pre-Flight at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend. Located at the University of Iowa, Iowa Pre-Flight was one of several schools created to train soldiers, sailors, and aviators during World War II. The Irish trailed 13–7 in the fourth quarter before taking the lead on a 6-yard touchdown run by Creighton Miller and an extra point by Fred Earley.
