On June 1, 1911, the residents of Las Vegas officially voted to incorporate, transitioning the settlement from a township into a city. At the time, the population was roughly 800 people, and the vote marked a pivotal step in establishing the local government and infrastructure that would eventually transform the railroad town into a global gaming and entertainment capital.

On May 31, 1961, Psidium stunned a crowd of 250,000 at Epsom Downs by winning the Epsom Derby as a 66-to-1 long shot. Ridden by Roger Poincelet, the horse was such an unlikely victor that even his owner failed to place a bet. Due to an injury sustained in training shortly after the win, the Derby proved to be Psidium's final race.
