Chico Carrasquel fueled the onslaught with five hits and five runs. In a strange reversal, Chicago was shut out 5-0 in their next two games before regaining their offensive form with a 13-4 win over the Yankees on April 27

On April 22, 1903, the New York Highlanders (later the Yankees) debuted with a 3-1 loss to the Washington Senators. Their home opener followed on April 30 at Hilltop Park, a 6-2 victory before 16,243 fans. Despite the win, the unfinished grounds were in dismal condition, featuring a grassless outfield and a swamp in right field.
