Cy Young Award Odds and Top 7 Favorites Including Gerrit Cole and Zac Gallen

The AL Cy Young award goes to the pitcher in the AL that is voted to be the best, and we’ve had a number of great winners of that award over the years.

Last season, there was a clear winner of the AL Cy Young award, and that was Houston Astros starter Justin Verlander. Despite coming back from Tommy John surgery, Verlander was still easily the best pitcher in baseball at the ripe age of 39. He went 18-4 with an incredible 1.75 ERA in 28 starts to win his third Cy Young. Verlander was the first pitcher to win the award after not pitching the previous season. He beat out Chicago White Sox ace Dylan Cease for the award.

Best AL Cy Young Bets

 Shane McClanahan

The Tampa Bay Rays are on fire to begin the season, and McClanahan has done his part to help them get there. If they keep winning, he’ll be in the conversation at the end if he keeps pitching well.

Odds to Win AL Cy Young

  • Gerrit Cole +350
  • Shane McClanahan +375
  • Shohei Ohtani +900
  • Luis Castillo +1500
  • Joe Ryan +1500
  • Nathan Eovaldi +1500
  • Framber Valdez +1500

Gerrit Cole

The value here is a little bit dry, however, Cole is a strikeout machine. He’s so dominant, and for the most part, shuts everyone down that he faces. His odds keep getting shorter, so if you like him to win it, hop on them before there is no value at all.

Gallen, Strider Above Rest in NL Cy Young Race

The NL Cy Young award goes to the pitcher in the NL that is voted to be the best, and we have had a number of great winners of that award over the years.

Last season, there was a unanimous leader for the award. Miami Marlins starter Sandy Alcantara was a workhorse all year for the Marlins. He led Major League Baseball with 228 2/3 innings pitched and tossed six complete games, more than any MLB team. Alcantara finished second in the National League in ERA (2.28), sixth in WHIP (.980) and fourth in strikeouts (207).

Alcantara earned all 30 first-place votes and 210 total points. Atlanta Braves pitcher Max Fried was a distant second with 72 points.

Spencer Strider

Strider is the second choice for the best odds to win the award, but is still a good bet here at these odds. The righty’s strikeout stuff is incredible, and he had nine in each of his first three starts this season. If he can stay healthy over a full season, his K-rate alone should put him right there at the top.

Odds to Win NL Cy Young

  • Zac Gallen +250
  • Spencer Strider +275
  • Clayton Kershaw          +1100
  • Mitch Keller +1800
  • Justin Steele +2500
  • Logan Webb +2500
  • Zack Wheeler +2500

Zac Gallen

Gallen is 6-2 with 72 strikeouts through his first 10 starts, including an impressive 11 strikeouts against the Brewers. His odds continue to shorten and assuming he can keep this up as the season goes along, and we will see a guy who has been overlooked for far too long.
