‘Tis the season for NBA trade rumors. Let the speculation begin about the future destination for Giannis “Greek Freak” Antetokounmpo. Over the last week, Antetokounmpo scrubbed his social media feeds and removed almost every affiliation to the Milwaukee Bucks while reports resurfaced that he requested a trade to the New York Knicks in the offseason.
The Knicks are the betting favorite to land Antetokounmpo in a trade, but other teams are also in the running for the two-time NBA MVP, including the Atlanta Hawks, Houston Rockets, and San Antonio Spurs. Other teams like the Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers, and Golden State Warriors are also interested.
Antetokounmpo is currently sidelined for two to four weeks with a right calf strain, but NBA conspiracy theorists are not buying the official story. They think it’s just a tactic to allow the Greek Freak to sit out for a couple of weeks and preserve his health.

Greektown Gotham: Knicks (+110)
The Knicks are the toast of NYC once again, but they’d be foolish not to pursue Antetokounmpo. As the story blew up, the betting market responded and the Knicks are the early favorite at +110 odds.
Fans were thrilled to ditch Julius Randle for Karl-Anthony Towns, but they’d happily upgrade once again by trading Towns for Antetokounmpo.
In addition to Towns, the Knicks would have to deal another starter (OG Anunoby or Mikal Bridges), a couple of prospects (Tyler Kolek, Pacome Dadiet), and multiple draft picks to make the trade worth it for Milwaukee.
Many die-hard yet cautious fans prefer to wait until next summer to acquire Antetokounmpo. They’d like to stay patient and see how the current roster develops under new head coach Mike Brown over a full season and one playoff cycle. In that scenario, the Knicks would wait until the offseason to pull the trigger on a trade with the Bucks.

No Trade: Bucks (+250)
The Bucks could retain Antetokounmpo for the remainder of his career if they convince him to stay. Then again, they made 17 trades since 2020 to build another championship roster around Antetokounmpo to no avail. Maybe a breakup is inevitable, but is it the ideal time during the season?
Let’s be frank here because the majority of NBA trade rumors never pan out. It seems more likely that the Bucks do not trade Antetokounmpo during the season and the two sides part ways in the summer of 2026.

Blast Off: Rockets (+700)
The Rockets thought they were one star away from becoming a contender, which is why they acquired Kevin Durant in a trade with the Phoenix Suns in the offseason. However, the harsh reality is that the OKC Thunder are a dominant force in the Western Conference, and Rockets need more firepower if they expect to dethrone the defending champs.
Center Alperen Sengun is having the best season of his career, averaging 23.1 points, 9.1 rebounds, 7.1 assists while shooting 51% from the floor and 38.5% from 3-point range. The 23-year-old Sengun is probably the best young player that the Bucks could acquire in a trade, which is why the Rockets are among the leading contenders to acquire Antetokounmpo at +700 odds. The Rockets would also have to include Fred VanVleet and draft picks in any serious trade discussion with the Bucks.

Euro Two Step: Spurs (+800)
The French phenom and the Greek Freak on the same team? What’s not to like about this European dynamic duo? Pairing Antetokounmpo with Victor Wembanyama would create one of the most fearful frontcourts in the NBA. Along with De’Aaron Fox, the Spurs could have a stout Big 3 to compete with the Thunder for supremacy in the West. The Spurs can easily cobble together a trade package featuring talented young players (Stephon Castle, Dylan Harper) and draft picks.

Trading Trae: Hawks (+900)
The Hawks caught a glimpse of life without Trae Young. With Young sidelined with a sprained knee, the Hawks thrived and found its own offensive identity while upgrading significantly on the defensive end.
The Hawks could ship Young to Milwaukee along with former #1 pick Zaccharie Risacher and multiple first-round picks. The Bucks would acquire two starters to plug into the lineup immediately while also securing much-needed draft capital to rebuild the team.

Hollywood Freaks: Lakers (+1500)
There’s no shortage of wacky trade scenarios floating around Los Angeles. You can’t blame the fervent fan base for conjuring up pipe dream scenarios after the Lakers pulled off the coup of the century by acquiring Luka Doncic from the Dallas Mavericks for a perpetually injured Anthony Davis and a bag of magic beans. The Lakers would love to add Antetokounmpo to a starting five with Doncic and LeBron James. Yet, they’d have to say goodbye to Austin Reaves and gut their already thin roster to make any trade a possibility. The odds of the Greek Freak in a Lakers uniform should be much higher than +1500.

Miami Looks Like Greece: Heat (+1900)
The Miami Heat are long shots to add Antetokounmpo, but it seems doubtful because Pat Riley and the front office are shrewd and slow negotiators. If the Greek Freak wants out of Milwaukee quickly, then South Beach will not be where he ends up.

Freak and Steph Show: Warriors (+2100)
Steph Curry isn’t getting any younger, so why not go out in style by taking one last shot at championship glory? Watching Curry and Antetokounmpo run the pick-and-roll in the playoffs sounds like a winning formula.
The Warriors could entice the Bucks with a package that includes Jimmy Butler, Brandin Podziemski, and multiple first-round picks. There’s another path where they offer draft picks plus Draymond Green, Buddy Hield, and Jonathan Kuminga. Even the most nostalgic fan in the Bay Area would gladly break up Curry and Green if it gave the Warriors a legit shot to hang one more championship banner from the rafters.

OKC Overkill: Thunder (+2100)
The Thunder scoffed at the notion of a championship hangover and began the season with a 23-1 record. The Thunder look unstoppable once again, thanks to the deepest bench in the league. No one is in a better position to secure Antetokounmpo than the Thunder, with an abundance of talented prospects and picks. They’re sitting on a stockpile of first-round picks and swaps that could be as many as 13 through the next five drafts. Then again, as the saying goes: “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
