Double Dip for Phil Ivey
Triton Poker London Event No. 13 $60,000 NL Turbo attracted 61 total entries. Ivey survived a stacked final table that included Americans Cary Katz and Nick Petrangelo. He picked off Katz during their heads-up battle to lock up the eleventh seven-figure score of his career. Ivey was the last player standing, and he banked $1,007,000 for the win.
A couple of days later, Ivey didn’t squander a chance to win another high roller tournament. Triton Poker London Event No. 17 $25,000 Short Deck (Ante Only) Turbo attracted 33 total entries including 15 re-entries. The prize pool was $825,000, and only the top five places earned a cut.
British pro Stephen Chidwick busted in third place, which set up a heads-up battle between Ivey and Danny Tang. Both players were looking for a second win this series. Ivey was also fresh off a victory in Event No. 12. Tang, a pro from Hong Kong, was running hot entering this final table with four cashes in London. A few days earlier, Tang won Event No. 13 $60,000 NL for a score worth $1.6 million.
After a feisty heads-up joust, Tang headed to the rail in second place. Ivey was the last player standing once again, and he banked $288,500 for the turbo-charged event.
He notched a second win in London, and became only the second player in Triton Poker history with five high roller victories. Ivey saw his career winnings pass $40 million with four cashes in London. Ivey is currently ranked tenth overall on Hendon Mob’s all-time money list, but he would arguably be ranked No. 1 if he played more tournaments.
Jason Koon Snags Ninth Triton Title
Koon entered 2023 in a tie with Belarusian pro Mikita Badsiakouski with four Triton Poker victories. Badsiakouski failed to secure any high roller wins this year, and he’s stuck on four titles. Koon won five tournaments in 2023 at various stops that hosted Triton Poker high roller events. He secured one win in Vietnam in March, two more titles in Cyprus in May, and was a double winner in London.
Koon shipped Triton Poker London Event No. 6 $60,000 NL when he outlasted a field of 67 runners. The total prize pool was over $6.2 million, and Koon banked $1.57 million for first place. He outgunned a final table that included Rodrigo Selouan, Justin Saliba, Dan Smith, Mathias Ebinger, Espen Jorstad, and Ivey.
Koon also took down Event No. 16 $60,000 NL Short Deck Main Event. He outlasted a field of 46 entries who generated a prize pool worth $2.76 million. Koon won $828,000 for first place and edged out Malaysia’s Kiat Lee heads-up for the victory. He outlasted a final table that included Lun Loon, Tan Xuan, Chris Brewer, Wai Kin Yong, Mas Oya, and Daniel Dvoress.
Koon’s double score in London marked his fifth high roller title in 2023, and the ninth overall victory on the Triton Poker Tour in his career. His career earnings passed $51.2 million according to Hendon Mob. Koon is currently fourth overall in all-time career tournament winnings, and closing in on Stephen Chidwick ($51.7 million) for third place.
