Mix and Match NFL, College Football Bets

Caesars Sportsbook has regular-season win totals up for NFL and college football, but did you know that there are also regular season head-to-head win total plays available between NFL and college football teams?

That’s right, there are 10 NFL team vs. college football team head-to-head win total plays under the NFL futures section in the Caesars Sportsbook mobile app. All of them are at pick’ems too, so all that needs to happen to win your bet is for you to pick which team will finish with more victories in this upcoming campaign.

“This offering is unique to Caesars Sportsbook,” said Ray Kluever, Caesars Sportsbook college football senior trader. “Last year when we introduced it, no one matched us on this. With this, we’re trying to come up with something fun, exciting and gives people something to talk about it. Many of these are geographically based so we can intrigue people in certain areas of the country, and obviously, we had to deal with different state regulations and compliance. I’d say it’s heavily NFL-weighted since more people bet on NFL games than college and NFL teams play 17 regular-season games versus in college it’s only 12.”

New customers at Caesars can receive up to a $1,000 free bet when registering a new mobile or online account. If your first bet loses, no problem. Caesars will replace that bet with a free bet of the same amount.

Bet Pits Top NFL, College Team

Let’s start with the two defending champions, as the Los Angeles Rams and Georgia Bulldogs are pitted against each other. Georgia’s win total is at 11.5 (over +150/under -180) while the Rams are at 10.5 (over -120/under +100). The Bulldogs are the only college football team with a win total currently residing at 11.5. Even with that discrepancy, each team is -115 for their head-to-head price.

There is actually one head-to-head win total matchup where the two teams have a higher combined win total than the Rams and Georgia. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are tied for the NFL’s highest win total at 11.5 with the Buffalo Bills, however, Tampa Bay’s under is slightly favored at -120. The Alabama Crimson Tide, meanwhile, is joined by the Ohio State Buckeyes for college football’s second-highest win total at 11, with the Crimson Tide’s over leading the way at -140. Though Buccaneers vs. Alabama is at a pick’em, Tampa Bay is priced at -125 to finish with more wins while Alabama sits at -105.

“The first matchup idea that I came up with and solidified was Tom Brady vs. Nick Saban,” Kluever said. “Rams vs. Georgia kinda came to me as a fluke trying to get Georgia in there with somebody. The 11.5 to 10.5 didn’t really faze me because people expect the Rams to contend again. We don’t have the Bills in any of these, and I tried so many different teams with Buffalo. I couldn’t come up with anyone that was matching up because our NFL traders think there’s a good shot that the Bills will win more games than any college football team will even play. So we couldn’t really find a matchup for Buffalo.”

Regional Match Ups Popular

On the flip side, the win total matchup with the lowest combined win total is a Pacific Northwest showdown. The Seattle Seahawks (over +100/-120) and the Oregon State Beavers (-115/-115) both have win totals of 6, and it’s the Beavers that are slightly favored at -120 in this head-to-head matchup. Before last season’s 7-6 mark, Oregon State had not reached at least six wins since 2013.

While the Seahawks vs. Oregon State is a regional battle, three of the NFL vs. college football head-to-head matchup pairings feature teams in the same city. Those markets are Pittsburgh Steelers (-115) vs. University of Pittsburgh Panthers (-115), Miami Dolphins (-125) vs. University of Miami Hurricanes (-105) and Cincinnati Bengals (-125) vs. University of Cincinnati Bearcats (-105).

The head-to-head side that has drawn the most money so far is USC Trojans (-115) going up against the Las Vegas Raiders. The Trojans’ win total opened at 9.5 before dropping down to its current standing of 9 (over -170/under +140). The Raiders are positioned at 8.5 (over +100/under -120), which is the lowest win total of any AFC West team.

“We have such a big L.A. following that comes to Vegas on a regular basis,” Kluever said. “I thought it was a perfect matchup to put USC with all their hype ahead of Lincoln Riley’s first season with the Raiders getting Davante Adams and new head coach Josh McDaniels coming to town. When we released these, there was no doubt in my mind that this matchup will be the one that’s the most heavily bet. It’s interesting to me that it’s been heavily bet on USC so far, I’m not on the hype train there and the Raiders look to be much improved.”

The other head-to-head win total matchups available at Caesars Sportsbook are Kansas City Chiefs (-125) vs. Ohio State (-105), New England Patriots (-115) vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (-115), and New York Giants (-120) vs. LSU Tigers (-110).
